Deep, dark, and mysterious

It looks like I missed my first day of my 365 (day 141), so I’ll just write one today. Last night I was with a friend and, with my electronics dead, I decided that I wouldn’t blog for the night. Mentally, I am a blogger, the 365 is now for regularity – I’m always here in spirit with you guys.

It seems like human nature is to be attracted to people who are deep, dark, and mysterious. A person that doesn’t talk often has potential to be whatever you want them to be. On the opposite side, a person who is authentic and true to them-self isn’t as open to interpretation. You can either like who they are, or not – there isn’t the same room for imagination.

When we meet someone new, that person is a mystery to us. They could love all the same music as us, or have some weird Barney fetish. We really don’t know. As time goes on, we learn these things and decided how much we like the person.

So why is it that we are attracted to the people who remain mysterious even after knowing them for a while? It’s because they have the room to be whatever you want them to be. They could like the same music as you. They could be in love with the same things you are.

It’s almost an illusion that we put in front of ourselves. We have something we want these people to be and we project it onto them. They appear as deep, and maybe they are, but you always have to dig to know more about them.

When I was younger, I wanted to be with the mysterious guys. The ones that you didn’t always know everything about them. As I grew up I came to realize that a lot of people who are mysterious are mysterious for a reason. Sometimes they’re just incredibly undefined people – others they have emotional repression problems.

This isn’t to say that people who are quiet have problems but I’ve found that people who are open and outwardly themselves are the most energetic and real. They bring something authentic out in me and make me feel more like myself.

The mysterious types are definitely intriguing as well but there’s a certain point where mystery crosses secret-ism. Life is too short to be with someone who is inauthentic.

I’m not sure exactly where these thoughts came from but I feel this to be true about myself. What do you think? Do you like the dark, mysterious man? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I’ve always had a thing for dark mysterious people and in a way I’m a bit like that myself. I’ve never been able to tap into why I’m so drawn to them but your post gave me a few things to consider. It’s true a person who is dark and mysterious allows for more imaginative room, but perhaps one of the reasons why I like them is I feel more motived to peel back their mysterious layers. A person who is an open book, who tells what’s on their mind and how they feel without question doesn’t always inspire me to want to know more. Maybe mysterious people are that way to keep people asking “who are you?”

    1. There is definitely that desire to know what’s behind the mystery! That’s what’s so intriguing about it! That person has so much potential to be who you want them to be. A person who is open either is who you want them to be or not.

I guess it comes down to personal taste. For me, I don’t align being open with always saying what’s on your mind. I’m open but I don’t always share what’s going on in my head. Instead, it means is that if someone asks me a question, I won’t be coy about the answer. I’ll be open about who I am without intentionally leaving out details.

Hmm, maybe that doesn’t make sense. I do understand what you mean. It’s always good to have someone you’re intrigued by!

      Thanks for the comment heyrainbows!
